Golden State Warriors at Houston Rockets Preview, Tips and Odds

Perhaps one of the biggest surprises of this postseason has been the poor play of Steph Curry. And while he struggled mightily throughout Game 3, it was his missed dunk, with a WIDE-OPEN lane, that cost the team the chance at a 3-0 lead. Golden State’s defense was exceptional throughout, with Houston having to work their tails off for every basket. But they missed shots down the stretch and ultimately couldn’t get it done.

Houston, on the other hand, has to be ecstatic with the result of the last game. James Harden turned in an exceptional performance, despite the fact that his eye does not look to be doing too well. CP3 made plays when needed, and Eric Gordon decided to turn into one of the greatest shooters in the league when called upon. The results of tonight’s game will decide a lot, as Houston can either tie the series or face elimination in Golden State.

Warriors at Rockets stats

Warriors: We know that things didn’t go according to plan for GS in the big moments during Game 3, and the series score is now 2-1. One thing they just could not do for the life of them is rebound. They lost that battle 55-35 and were outdone 17 to seven on the offensive glass. They took great care of the ball with just eight turnovers but have a lot of improvements to make. KD had another dominant performance with 46, while the other four starters were all in double figures. But still, they took the loss. It was the first time ever that they were defeated in a contest where Draymond had a triple-double. Also, Steph was 0-6 from the floor in the fourth quarter/overtime.

Rockets: They were making their threes! Houston shot 18/42 (43%) from downtown, and it paid huge dividends. Eric Gordon could not miss from there, while Austin Rivers and Iman Shumpert gave them a boost by knocking a few down. It was the first time all postseason that Danuel House (healthy scratch) did not suit up. James Harden had 41-9-6 in 45 minutes of action, while Eric Gordon put in 30 points of his own, including a plethora of threes. Winning the battle on the boards and grabbing offensive rebounds played a huge role for the Rockets.

Golden State is 13-4 against the spread against Western Conference opponents coming off of a playoff loss (Evan Abrams). They are 1.5-point underdogs tonight.

It’s also worth noting that teams cover the spread just 38% of the time against a GS team coming off a loss (also Abrams).
