Japan will meet the current champions from Chile in the nations opening game of Copa America 2019. Japan will participate, as they were invited alongside the other ASIA CUP finalists Qatar and it will be their second time, as their first taste of South America’s top tournament was back in 1999, when they managed to earn a single draw from three games. The Chileans won the last two editions of the Copa, after upseting the odds and will be looking for a hat-trick of achievements.

Worth mentioning: The two nations have met just two times in the history so far, with the Chileans still looking for their first victory over the Asian side. There was one scoreless draw, while the other match turned into a nightmare for the Chile players, as they were trashed 4:0 in a game part of the friendly tournament Kirin Cup. Alexis Sanchez, Arturo Vidal and Co. will be looking for their first goal in the Japanese net when the two sides collide on Monday.

Worth mentioning: Japan already participated in one big continental tournament, when in the beginning of the year they reached the final of the Asian Cup, only to be defeated by Qatar. Being the second best in Asia was enough for them to get a “wild card” invitation for Copa America 2019. None of the team’s last four matches produced over 2,5 goals, neither saw both involved sides scoring. The Japanese players managed to keep a clean sheet in all of those matches.
Chile have been struggling at the back recently and have conceded in each of their last five outings. Four of those also featured over 2,5 goals. This tournament will be the last major competition for most of the Chilean Golden generation in the faces of Arturo Vidal, Alexis Sanches and Caludio Bravo, who delivered a lot of happy moments and sleepless nights for their countrymen with their performances in the previous editions of Copa America.
