Madden 19 comes out soon, which is a yearly “must grab” for football fans who also happen to be gamers. The team rankings, and individual rankings have been released by EA Sports. Overall, the developers do a good job of rating the players and teams. Here are a few gripes I have about a few of the team rankings in the latest installment of the football franchise. Remember, these criticisms can only be realized when compared to other team rankings, so while reading this, feel free to look up the overall list of rankings for comparison.
Los Angeles Rams (80) TOO LOW
I guess this is an easy pick for me as the Los Angeles Rams are my pick to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl this season. The Philadelphia Eagles are ranked a 90 on the game, which is 10 points higher than the Rams. The lowest team, the Jets, are ranked a 72. Therefore, the developers believe that the gap between the Rams and the Jets is narrower than that between the Eagles and the Rams. I am not buying that for one second.
Dallas Cowboys (81) TOO HIGH
This is a team that went 9-7 last year and lost it’s top two receiving targets in Dez Bryant and Jason Witten. I have a hard time believing that this team should outrank the Rams, Chiefs, Packers, and Panthers. Madden 19 deems the Cowboys as the clear choice for 2nd place in the NFC East while, according to the rankings, the Giants will struggle to win a game. I do not see that much difference between the 2018 Cowboys and Giants.
Carolina Panthers (78) TOO LOW
This is too low for a team that could make a deep run in the playoffs and surprise no one. Playing in possibly the toughest division in football will give them some losses they probably don’t deserve does not change the fact that this is a very talented team. Having them in the bottom half of the rankings seems laughable, especially behind 3 points behind the Cowboys, Titans, Raiders, 2 behind the Seahawks, and 1 behind the Ravens and Redskins. I take Carolina on a neutral field against any of those teams.
Los Angeles Chargers (77) TOO LOW
This is the team I have picked to win the AFC West in 2018. Perhaps the play on the field will prove me wrong, but Madden has them ranked as the 21st best team on the game, which is criminally low. Luckily for Chargers fans playing the game, the developers do not have much respect for the division, as that 21st ranking is the 2nd highest in the division behind only the Chiefs. Tennessee Titans (81) TOO HIGH: I am just plain down on the Titans in 2018. Madden has them ranked 9th on the game ahead of the Rams, Panthers, Packers, Texans, and Chargers. Please stop.
