The Philadelphia Eagles sit at 2-3 in the NFC East and will travel to MetLife Stadium Thursday night to take on the 1-4 New York Giants. This is one of the biggest rivalries in the entire league as both teams battle it out to gain an edge in a wide-open division. Even though the Giants sit at 1-4, if the Redskins lose to the Saints on Monday Night Football then there will be a two-way tie for first place in the division between the Redskins and Cowboys at 2-2. A couple of Super Bowl champion quarterbacks will be going head to head with a showdown between up-and-coming star Carson Wentz and veteran Eli Manning.
Eagles vs. Giants Odds
The Eagles are favored on the road at -3.0, as they’ve lost both of their games on the road this season. The Giants sit at 1-3 at home on the season under new head coach Pat Shurmur. The odds aren’t all that shocking as the Eagles are coming off a Super Bowl season and Manning and the Giants offensive line have struggled to get things going offensively. The total for this game is listed at 44.
Spread: Eagles -3.0
Total: 44
Eagles vs. Giants Head to Head
This is expected to be a very humid matchup with temps in the mid 70’s and a chance of rain. The Giants currently lead the all-time series, barely, with an 85-83-2 record. The Giants have dropped their last three outings against the Eagles, losing both games last season by less than a touchdown. This is a Giants offense that can keep up offensively with the Eagles if they get protection and limit turnovers. New York continues to try and revamp their offensive line as they face one of the league’s scariest defensive pass rushes. Guys like Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox and Michael Bennett will cause havoc in the backfield if the line continues to struggle. They looked better this week, only allowing one sack to the Carolina Panthers.
Eagles vs. Giants Stats
Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is coming off his best game so far this season against the Panthers, posting eight receptions for 131 yards and his first receiving touchdown of the season. Beckham also connected on a 57-yard passing touchdown to Saquan Barkley in the second quarter of Sunday’s game. Beckham currently sits fourth in the league with 462 receiving yards. With Evan Engram side-lined, look for Beckham and Sterling Shepard to continue seeing an uptick in targets.
Eagles vs. Giants News
Eagles running back Corey Clement played zero snaps in the Eagles’ Week 5 loss to the Vikings as he was playing through a quad injury. Clement was announced “active,” but it was evidently only on an emergency basis. Clement will enter Thursday’s matchup against the Giants having not touched the ball since Week 3. Wendell Smallwood has been holding down the fort with Clement hobbled by injury and will battle for touches with Jay Ajayi.
Eagles vs. Giants Predictions
It’s hard to see the defending champions lose two games in a row, we’re taking the Eagles in this one 31-17.
