Kansas City Chiefs at Oakland Raiders Preview, Tips, and Odds

The top of the food chain visits the bottom of the food chain, as the 9-2 Kansas City Chiefs travel to take on the 2-9 Oakland Raiders in a Week 13 AFC West divisional matchup. This will be the first time these teams play each other this season, as they split the divisional series last season. The Raiders defeated the Chiefs 31-30 at home last season and would complete the upset of the season if they were to pull that off this weekend.

Chiefs at Raiders Odds

Kansas City is favored -15 on the road this week, the highest in Week 13. It’s a pretty good bet to take the over in this matchup because the overly efficient and high-powered offense of the Chiefs should have no problem decimating this Raiders defense. Oakland allows the 26thmost yards per game (390), while the Chiefs average the 4thmost yards per game (434.3).

Spread: Chiefs -15

Total: 55.5

Chiefs at Raiders Head to Head

While the Chiefs are returning from their Week 12 bye week, the Raiders are coming off a 34-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Derek Carr had a rough afternoon completing 16-of-34 pass attempts for 194 yards and a touchdown. Oakland is clearly preparing for next year’s draft and Gruden’s game plan since taking over as head coach is collecting as much draft capital as possible. The Chiefs look to clinch a playoff spot and home-field advantage in the playoffs, as they will continue to hold the best record in the AFC if they defeat the Raiders this weekend.

Chiefs at Raiders Stats

The Chiefs have an offensive player in the top five of almost every category. Patrick Mahomes has remained one of the top MVP vote-getters since the beginning of the season. Mahomes on the season has 3,628 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. In Week 11’s Monday night thriller against the Rams, Mahomes had his worst turnover game of the season. Mahomes in that matchup turned the ball over 5 times, 3 interceptions and 2 fumbles lost, but still passed for 478 yards and 6 TD’s. Turnovers were his biggest question mark heading into this season, and he had been doing well leading up until the Rams game. The Chiefs ended up losing by 3 points, and the way that game was going the Chiefs could have come out on top if you took away at least one of the Mahomes turnovers.

Chiefs at Raiders News

Great news for the Chiefs defense, as Eric Berry practiced on Wednesday for the first time all season. Obviously, the Chiefs will have to see how Berry responds before deciding if he’ll play against the Raiders this week. Consider him truly day to day. Sammy Watkins remained sidelined at Wednesday’s practice with a heel injury, despite coming out of their bye week. Kansas City could just be playing it safe with their highest-paid wideout to keep him healthy for a playoff run.
