Giants at Redskins Preview, Tips, and Odds

In an NFC East showdown, the New York Giants will travel to FedEx Field and take on the Washington Redskins. The Giants are coming off a win over the Chicago Bears, but sit last in the division, 4-8 and trail the first place Dallas Cowboys by 3 games. The Redskins are also coming off a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, as they’re tied with the Eagles at 6-6 for second in the division. The Redskins have fell victim to horrible injuries to Alex Smith and Colt McCoy and will have to choose between Mark Sanchez and the newly acquired Josh Johnson to start at QB on Sunday.

Giants at Redskins Odds

The Giants are favored on the road this week –3.5 and will look to improve upon their 2-4 road record this season. The Redskins have played just as well at home as they have on the road with records of 3-3.

Spread: Giants -3.5

Giants at Redskins Head to Head

These two teams faced off back in Week 8 when the Redskins beat the Giants 20-13. Adrian Peterson had himself a game in the first matchup, rushing 26 times for 149 yards and a touchdown. Peterson is coming off a 9 carry, 98-yard performance against the Eagles and the 33-year-old RB broke off a 90-yard touchdown run. The Redskins still had Alex Smith in that matchup, so expect there to be growing pains with whichever QB steps in and starts for the Redskins Sunday. The Giants defense had a good performance against backup QB Chase Daniel and the Bears last week. It was a game to remember for MLB Alec Ogletree who finished with 10 total tackles and 2 interceptions, with one those on the first drive that he took back for an 8-yard touchdown.

Giants at Redskins Stats

The Giants defense has been pretty vulnerable all season, allowing the 24th most total yards per game (377.7). The Redskins defense will really need to tighten up and stop playmakers like Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham Jr. Washington ranks as the 9thbest team against the run (102.8) and 8th best in points allowed (21.4). The defense bottled up Barkley really well in Week 8, holding him to just 13 carries for 38 yards. Barkley is a duel threat RB and reeled in 9 catches for 73 yards in that game, as it’s extremely difficult to stop an RB of his caliber. Odell Beckham Jr. will face off against Josh Norman again after catching 8 balls for 136 yards in their first go-around.

Giants at Redskins News

Despite the injuries the Redskins have had to the QB position, remember they’re still in the middle of a playoff race. Both Jon and Jay Gruden have experience working with Johnson, who was selected in the first-round of the Alliance of American Football draft earlier this month.

Giants at Redskins Predictions

It’s difficult to have any faith in Mark Sanchez at quarterback for the Redskins. We still expect this to be a tight and competitive matchup, but we’re taking the Giants this week 27-20.
