Liverpool vs Napoli Preview, Tips and Odds

Liverpool and Napoli will lock horns in a do-or-die game on Tuesday night. Looking to advance past the “Group of death” the English side will have the support of their fans. It will be another crazy night with European football on Anfield, a venue that will produce an electrifying atmosphere and where home supporters will do their all to win the game from the stands.

Liverpool vs Napoli Head to Head

Having met four times since 2010, the opponents share a record of 2 wins for Liverpool, a draw and a single win for the Italian side. Merseysiders have hit the net on eight occasions, while Napoli have done it just twice. In the last meeting in October, Napoli won 1-0 thanks to a Lorenzo Insigne stoppage time strike.

Liverpool vs Napoli Stats

Napoli are currently sitting on top of group C with nine points, while Liverpool are third with six. The only scenario that will see both teams progressing from the group is Liverpool to win the match and PSG to lose agains Red Star in the other game. This looks highly unlikely given the class of the French champions, so we are going to witness a gladiators battle where only one will survive. Both teams are coming into the game on the back of convincing 4-0 victories in their domestic leagues. Last year’s PFA award winner Salah scored a hat-trick and looked like he is back to his scintillating best, while Liverpool reclaimed top spot.

Despite playing with two of Europe top sides, Napoli are still to record a loss in the tournament. Carlo Ancelotti is probably the most decorated manager in the game right now and he knows how to get the job done, having won the trophy with two different teams. Allan has been a revelation for his side, protecting the defence well and keeping opposition forwards like Mbappe, Neymar, Salah and Firmino all quiet whenever they met.

It will come as no surprise if the Italians “park the bus” at Anfield and concentrate extremely on defending, knowing that a draw will see them progress. With players like Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne who posses blistering pace and can create something in a blink of an eye, Napoli will wait to hit their opponents on the counter-attack.
