Denver Nuggets at San Antonio Spurs Preview, Tips and Odds

Denver was able to rally in the fourth quarter at home against the Spurs in Game 2 to avoid going down 0-2 in their first playoff series under Mike Malone. Of all the players to lift them from potentially falling into the abyss, Jamal Murray, who had just three points through three quarters, was the one to do it. He was knocking down triple after triple in the fourth quarter, helping to tie the series up.

San Antonio is a gritty team and will never go down easy. They never give up on defense, they move the ball as well as any team, and they always look for the best shot. Their lack of a three-point shot came back to haunt them last game, as they took just 18 and only made five. They need to find their three-ball shooters with open looks to try and maximize their potential.

Nuggets vs. Spurs stats

Nuggets: On a team that does not lack various weapons, Denver had four players score 20+ points for the first time all season in their Game 2 comeback. Jamal Murray scored 21 of his 24 in the final frame to help lead the team from behind, as they erased a seven-point deficit at the start of the quarter, to win by nine. Nikola Jokic had a solid performance with 21-13-8, while Gary Harris poured in 23 points. Denver handled the ball as well as you can in a playoff game, turning it over just five times to San Antonio.

Spurs: They won the battle on the boards, points in the paint, and did not miss much from the foul line. But they weren’t able to hold on in the final quarter, as the series moved into a tie. After facing off with Golden State each of the past two years in the first round, this year’s matchup is far more favorable. DeMar DeRozan had a stellar performance with 31 points in 33 minutes, while LaMarcus Aldridge added 24 points and eight boards. Outside of Derrick White’s 17 points though, nobody else came to play.

Nuggets at Spurs H2H

All three of their regular-season meetings were close, with the Spurs winning two of three. The home team had won every game, so this playoff get-together is already showing different trends than the regular season had. Nevertheless, neither team is going to give in, and this is looking like a series that we should all be keeping a close eye on.
