Worth mentioning: Honduras lost their opening Gold Cup match with 3:2 from Jamaica, which marked their fifth consecutive game without a triumph. The result at half time was 2:0 for the Jamaicans, after a brace from Dever Orgill, but Honduras pulled one back in the 54′, only to see their deficit restored to two goals in the space of two minutes. The last goal came in the added time and the Honduras players did not have enough time for a final push to equalize. Three of the nation’s last five matches featured over 2,5 goals and the same number of encounters witnessed goals at both ends. Just one of their previous fourteen outings was won by the visiting side.
Curacao also lost their first Gold Cup 2019 match by one goal difference, after going 1:0 down to El Salvador. The only goal of the game came in the stoppage time of the first half, and nothing interesting happened in the second. Curacao managed just one shot on target, which obviously, was not enough to earn them at least a draw. None of their last two meetings produced over 2,5 goals, but each of the previous three did, and in total three of the their last five outings saw both involved sides hitting the back of the nets.
