Shooting regularly is usually a sign that a player is finding dangerous positions, but a high volume of attempts does not necessarily deliver goals. The opening months of the 2026/27 season have already produced some extreme examples across Europe’s biggest domestic leagues, including established stars, expensive signings and players whose recent records suggest they should be far more productive.

SportingPedia analysed player shooting data from the 2026/27 Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1, identifying the players with the most attempts and zero goals, and separately those with the most attempts and exactly one goal. Only domestic league matches were included, with the data collected on 2 November 2026.

The results reveal one clear outlier. Antony has attempted 34 shots without scoring, six more than any other player yet to find the net, while Paulo Dybala, Florian Wirtz, Fisnik Asllani and Deniz Undav are among the other notable names in the scoreless group. Among players with exactly one goal, Rayan and Farés Ghedjemis lead with 27 attempts each, while Désiré Doué, Liam Delap, Vinicius Júnior and Ousmane Dembélé also feature prominently.

Key Takeaways:

  • Antony leads Europe’s top five leagues with 34 shots and no goals, six attempts more than second-placed Armand Lauriente
  • Paulo Dybala has taken 21 shots without scoring after entering the season with 45 goals for Roma
  • Florian Wirtz has 19 scoreless attempts after a debut Liverpool season in which he produced five goals and two assists in January alone
  • Fisnik Asllani also has 19 shots without scoring after contributing 10 Bundesliga goals and seven assists for Hoffenheim last season
  • Deniz Undav has failed to score from 16 attempts after finishing second in the Bundesliga scoring chart with 19 goals for Stuttgart in 2025/26
  • Rayan and Farés Ghedjemis lead the one-goal group with 27 shots each, followed by John Yeboah with 26
  • Désiré Doué and Liam Delap have each taken 24 shots for one goal, while Vinicius Júnior has needed 23
  • Ousmane Dembélé has scored once from 20 shots, having won the Ligue 1 scoring title with 21 goals in 2024/25 before collecting the Ballon d’Or later that year

Antony leads the scoreless list after 34 attempts

Antony is comfortably the most extreme case in the first chart. The Real Betis winger has attempted 34 shots in La Liga without scoring, compared with 28 for Sassuolo’s Armand Lauriente and 23 for Rayo Vallecano’s Pedro Díaz. No other scoreless player in Europe’s top five leagues has reached 30 attempts.

The contrast with Antony’s output for Betis last season is substantial. He scored eight La Liga goals, and six goals from 13 attempts in the 2025/26 Europa League, finishing only one behind joint-top scorers Igor Jesus and Petar Stanić. His current run is therefore not simply the case of a player who rarely threatens goal. Antony has continued to shoot frequently but has received no league return from 34 attempts. The size of the number also inevitably recalls the expectations attached to his career: Ajax received €95 million for his services from Manchester United in 2022.

Paulo Dybala is fifth in the scoreless group with 21 attempts for Roma. His place near the top is notable because his scoring record for the same club is already substantial: when he extended his contract in July 2026, Roma credited him with 45 goals in 139 appearances since arriving in 2022. The current campaign has therefore started very differently for one of the club’s established attacking leaders, with more than 20 attempts failing to produce a single league goal.

Florian Wirtz follows on 19 shots without scoring for Liverpool. Expectations around the German were enormous from the moment Liverpool agreed a transfer worth £100 million plus up to £16 million in add-ons, potentially making him the most expensive signing in British football. His first season did provide evidence of the attacking output Liverpool had paid for: in January 2026 alone, Wirtz recorded five goals and two assists in nine appearances and was voted the club’s Player of the Month. That makes the opening of his second campaign, with 19 Premier League shots and no goals, particularly notable.

Fisnik Asllani is level with Wirtz on 19 scoreless attempts for Hoffenheim after a breakthrough 2025/26 season in which he scored 10 Bundesliga goals and supplied seven assists in 33 matches. Those performances helped Hoffenheim qualify for the Europa League and significantly raised the striker’s profile. His agent subsequently confirmed contact from Barcelona over a possible transfer, while Bayern Munich were also reported among the clubs monitoring him. Against that backdrop, a start of 19 attempts without a league goal represents a sharp change from the form that attracted such interest.

Deniz Undav has taken fewer shots than those above him, but his 16 attempts without scoring create one of the strongest contrasts in the chart. The Stuttgart striker scored 19 Bundesliga goals in 2025/26, finishing second behind Harry Kane and recording the highest total by a German player in the division. It was also his best Bundesliga return, one better than the 18 he scored in 2023/24. Stuttgart credited Undav with 57 goals in 117 competitive appearances for the club when extending his contract in June, underlining how reliable his output had become before the present drought.

The contrast among the most recognisable names is difficult to miss. Antony scored six times in the Europa League for Betis last season, Undav finished second in the Bundesliga scoring chart for Stuttgart, Asllani reached double figures for Hoffenheim and Wirtz had already produced an outstanding month during his first Liverpool campaign. Dybala, meanwhile, entered the season with 45 Roma goals to his name. All five now sit among the highest-volume shooters in Europe’s top five leagues without a goal in 2026/27.

Rayan and Ghedjemis lead the one-goal group

The second chart focuses on players who have found the net, but only once despite repeatedly shooting. Rayan and Farés Ghedjemis lead with 27 attempts apiece, while John Yeboah follows with 26 and Bil Nsongo, Désiré Doué and Liam Delap have each taken 24.

Rayan’s position at the top is particularly notable because his international profile has risen dramatically during 2026. The Bournemouth winger represented Brazil at the World Cup and became the youngest Brazilian since Pelé in 1958 to provide an assist at the tournament when he created the opening goal against Scotland. His domestic numbers have been much less productive, with one Premier League goal from 27 shots, equivalent to a conversion rate of just 3.7%.

Désiré Doué has taken 24 Ligue 1 shots for one goal, a striking return for a player who has already achieved so much with PSG. Doué produced two goals and an assist in the 2025 Champions League final as Paris Saint-Germain won the competition for the first time, earning Player of the Match and later UEFA’s Young Player of the Season award. He then started the 2026 final as PSG retained the Champions League, giving him two European titles with his current club before turning 22. His return of one league goal from 24 attempts this season therefore sits in sharp contrast with how decisive he has already proved on football’s biggest club stage.

Liam Delap is level with Doué on 24 shots and one goal for Nottingham Forest. The English centre-forward joined Forest from Chelsea in August after spending one season at Stamford Bridge, where he was part of the squad that won the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and appeared in six of Chelsea’s seven matches at the tournament. His position in this ranking is particularly relevant because, unlike many midfielders and wide players on the two lists, Delap operates primarily as a central striker. Twenty-four attempts for one goal therefore represent a particularly modest return for a player whose role is centred on finishing chances.

Vinicius and Dembélé provide the biggest superstar contrasts

Vinicius Júnior has taken 23 La Liga shots for one goal, placing him among the highest-volume players in the second group. The number is a long way from the level he reached for Real Madrid in 2023/24, when he scored 24 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions, helped the club win La Liga and the Champions League and subsequently received The Best FIFA Men’s Player award for 2024. He also finished second in the 2024 Ballon d’Or voting, behind Rodri.

That recent status is what makes his current return noteworthy. Vinicius was being discussed among the very best players in world football only two seasons ago, yet his opening 23 league attempts of 2026/27 have produced only one goal.

Ousmane Dembélé supplies an even cleaner same-club comparison. The PSG forward scored 21 Ligue 1 goals in 2024/25, sharing the league lead and winning his first French top-scorer award. His performances extended far beyond the domestic competition: Dembélé finished the season with 37 goals and 15 assists in all competitions, helped PSG win their first Champions League and was subsequently awarded the 2025 Ballon d’Or.

The difference two seasons later is stark. The player who led Ligue 1 with 21 goals and was subsequently voted the world’s best has opened the current league campaign with one goal from 20 attempts. Of all the names in the second chart, Dembélé arguably provides the clearest example of how dramatically scoring output can change even without a decline in shooting activity.

Rayan and Ghedjemis occupy the top two positions, but the wider group contains several players whose profiles make the figures especially striking. Doué has already won consecutive Champions Leagues with PSG, Delap is an English centre-forward establishing himself at another Premier League club, Vinicius finished second in the Ballon d’Or before winning FIFA’s top individual award, and Dembélé entered the season as a recent Ligue 1 top scorer and Ballon d’Or winner. Their reputations differ considerably, but each has generated a sizeable number of attempts for only one league goal.
