The 2024/25 season across Europe’s top leagues has concluded and the champions have been crowned. On an individual level, the race for the Golden Boot was decided in the last round, with Viktor Gyokeres, Mohamed Salah, and Kylian Mbappe fighting for the coveted award until the last moment. In the end, Kylian Mbappe finished the campaign as the most prolific forward domestically, winning the Golden Boot award, scoring 31 La Liga goals in his debut season at Real Madrid. This prompted the team at Sportingpedia to analyse the 10 footballers who finished highest in the European Golden Boot race, focusing on their gross annual wages and cost per league goal.
Among the biggest revelations is that Manchester City’s Erling Haaland proved the worst value for money with a price of €1.47 million per goal. Another curious finding is that two other Scandinavians – Viktor Gyokeres and Mika Biereth proved to be the best value for money, as they were the only 2 whose goals came at a price lower than €100,000. Four players who were in last year’s Golden Boot Top 10 also featured this year – Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, and Viktor Gyokeres. Furthermore, each player’s club within the Golden Boot Top 10 qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
