Lukaku shines in Roma victory, praises club connection but sidesteps Chelsea comments

Following AS Roma’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Brighton in the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 clash, Romelu Lukaku who scored one of the goals shared insights into his time at the club and carefully navigated questions regarding his future. The Belgian striker, on loan from Chelsea, has been a key figure for Roma this season, scoring 18 goals and providing 4 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions. After scoring in Roma’s latest European match, he is now the 2nd top goalscorer in Europ League with 7 goals.

Lukaku highlighted the connection he has forged with Roma and its supporters, setting the experience apart from his previous stints. “Here at AS Roma, it’s all different; here the fans love me. I’m doing my best as this club helped me” he shared.

With his loan spell set to conclude in June, speculation is mounting about whether he will return to Chelsea or seek to extend his stay with Roma. Lukaku approached such inquiries with a blend of humor and caution, aiming to steer clear of any potential controversies. “I don’t want any controversy with them in England! I have to be smart, you know what I mean” he remarked, indicating his intention to avoid inflaming speculation about his future.

Lukaku’s route to Roma was marked by notable controversy, especially during last summer’s transfer window. After a series of negotiations that saw him nearly return to Inter, then veer towards a move to Juventus amid significant fan backlash, Lukaku ultimately landed at Roma.
