League of Legends (LoL) is the most popular multiplayer online battle arena in the world in terms of player engagement and viewership. Developed by Riot Games, LoL first appeared on the video gaming scene in 2009. It quickly evolved from at-home entertainment into a full-fledged esport with millions of fans worldwide.
Understandably, the game has also attracted considerable interest from sports bettors. It is therefore unsurprising that virtually all online sportsbooks offer odds on LoL contests. Unfortunately, not all of them provide the same levels of security and value.
The good news is that SportingPedia has vetted a wide range of League betting sites to identify eight of the best. Read on to discover what makes them our top picks.

MyBookie is a US-facing online sports betting operator that aims to provide a high-quality experience for both seasoned and novice bettors. As with most offshore sportsbooks that accept US customers, MyBookie focuses primarily on delivering extensive markets for major sports rather than covering a broad range of niche disciplines.
The sportsbook offers a standard lineup of sports, including tennis, football, soccer, horse racing, basketball, baseball, cricket, and hockey. In addition to these staples, customers can wager on US politics and entertainment. The esports tab provides solid coverage of Counter-Strike, Overwatch, and League of Legends. MyBookie supports a broad selection of wager types, including parlays, teasers, straight bets, totals, and point spreads or handicaps. The sportsbook accepts payments by card, bank transfer, and cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Litecoin. Unlike many rival US-facing betting sites, card transactions have an exceptionally high acceptance rate at MyBookie, reducing the likelihood of a declined deposit.
While reviewing the terms and conditions, we found that MyBookie’s minimum bets are slightly higher than those at some competing sites, as the minimum online stake is $2. MyBookie also accepts telephone wagers, but the minimum bet increases to $100 in this case.

League of Legends Betting Overview
However, League is much more than a popular form of at-home entertainment. The game also has a consistent presence on the esports scene. Hundreds of professional LoL tournaments are held around the globe each year, culminating in the League of Legends World Championship.
League of Legends Basics
Player Positions on a Pro Team
There are five main player positions on a standard team: support, bot laner, top laner, mid laner, and jungler. Most positions take their names from the specific sections of the map they occupy, with support players being the only exception. For instance, a team’s jungler is tasked with earning gold and experience by clearing jungle camps and killing neutral monsters in the area between the lanes, a map region known as “the jungle.”
Champions
All team members select player-controlled characters known as champions, each of which has a unique set of traits and abilities. At the time of publication, there are over 160 distinct champions in LoL. They are grouped into six categories based on their roles, weaknesses, and abilities.
- Assassins (e.g. Ekko, Akali, Talon, Nocturne)
- Fighters (e.g. Darius, Fiora, Camille, Fizz)
- Mages (e.g. Ahri, Morgana, Lux, Twisted Fate)
- Marksmen (e.g. Jinx, Kalista, Quinn, Kindred)
- Supports (e.g. Alistar, Rakan, Renata Glasc, Neeko)
- Tanks (e.g. Dr. Mundo, Galio, Sion, Gnar)
At the beginning of the game, champions have limited experience and less effective equipment. Their strength and effectiveness improve as they kill enemy minions and champions. Champions can also earn gold, which they can later use to strengthen their defenses and purchase more powerful items from the in-game shop.
Objective
Rival teams start the game on opposite sides of the map. Each team’s objective is to destroy the opposing faction’s Nexus, which is situated deep in enemy territory. An LoL map contains three primary lanes (top, bottom, and middle), each leading past defensive turrets that the team must demolish on its way to the rival Nexus.
On their way to the Nexus, team members strive to eliminate neutral monsters to earn additional gold and experience points. Baron Nashor is the most powerful of these neutral creatures. Located in a semicircular pit in the upper-left section of the map, Baron Nashor first appears 20 minutes into the game. Killing this serpent-like monster yields significant rewards but requires persistence, strategy, and teamwork.
Fun FactThe name Nashor is an anagram of Roshan, a powerful neutral creep from Dota 2 that serves a similar function.
Common Formats and Maps in Pro LoL
A professional LoL match normally comprises multiple games, with most fixtures using a best-of-three or best-of-five format. The vast majority of professional fixtures are played on Summoner’s Rift, the flagship map in League of Legends, and games usually last between 15 minutes and an hour.
LoL Regional Leagues
Professional teams from a given region compete against each other, and each league has its own relegation and promotion system. The worst-performing teams in a league are relegated to a lower division. LoL is the largest esport in the world, with 12 domestic leagues across multiple continents.

International LoL Championships
The champions of each domestic spring split represent their regions at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI). The top-ranked teams from the summer splits qualify for the League of Legends World Championship (Worlds). The MSI and Worlds are the two premier events in competitive LoL, attracting millions of spectators and online viewers each year.
The MSI is held annually between the spring and summer regional splits. Sponsored by Riot Games, it is the second-biggest League championship in the world. The 2022 MSI final attracted a record-breaking peak audience of 2.19 million viewers.
Fans watched as defending champion Royal Never Give Up defeated the South Korean team T1 by a score of 3-2. Often dubbed “Mini Worlds,” the MSI is also the second-most lucrative tournament in the LoL competitive scene, with prize pools reaching six figures.
The League of Legends World Championship (Worlds) is the culmination of the competitive season. The prestigious event sees the world’s best LoL teams compete for the championship title, the Summoner’s Cup trophy, and a share of a seven-figure prize pool. Worlds 2018 provides a useful point of reference, with a purse of $6.45 million.
The grand final of Worlds 2021 set viewership records, averaging over 1.29 million viewers and reaching a peak audience of 4.01 million people. This dramatic and highly anticipated event attracts significant betting interest each year and receives extensive coverage from quality online sportsbooks.
Popular LoL Bet Types and Markets
- Match Winner is the most straightforward wager you can place on a League fixture. You bet on which team you think will emerge victorious in an individual match. The odds reflect a team’s implied probability of winning. The longer the odds, the smaller the team’s perceived chances of success.
- Map Winner closely resembles the Match Winner market, except that you are betting on the team you think will win a specific map. For instance, you can back Evil Geniuses to defeat 100 Thieves on map 1 at odds of 1.32. If Evil Geniuses win the first map, your wager will also win.
Handicap betting is another way to wager on League of Legends, especially when the two teams involved in a contest are unevenly matched. Assume, for example, that Vitality.Bee is playing against Unicorns of Love in a European Masters match.
Unicorns of Love are strong favorites to win at odds of 1.19. Backing the team at such low odds with a standard Match Winner wager may not be appealing because winning bets will yield limited returns.
If you opt for a -1.5 handicap on Unicorns, their price could increase to 1.80. The handicap levels the playing field, but there is a condition. Because the match uses a best-of-three format, Unicorns must win 2-0 for your bet to pay out.
Over/Under Totals involve betting on how many games a given LoL match will contain. Suppose the matchup uses a best-of-three format and you are considering the Over/Under 2.5 market.
Bets on Under 2.5 will win if the match ends with a 2-0 score. Conversely, those who wager on Over 2.5 will receive payouts if the match reaches a third game and ends with a 2-1 score.
- Outright bets are simple to understand but difficult to predict correctly because you must choose which team will win an entire regional championship or an international tournament such as LoL Worlds. Another option is to bet on a given team to make the playoffs.
Proposition bets, also known as special bets or props, comprise a broad category of wagers that concern specific events in a match that do not necessarily affect the final outcome. Props can add variety to your LoL betting session but are also notoriously difficult to predict correctly.
To make informed selections, you should study the teams and their players carefully, understand their strengths and weaknesses, and analyze their strategies. Here are several examples of popular League of Legends props.
- First team to destroy a tower or an inhibitor
- First team to slay a dragon or Baron Nashor
- Team to score the most kills on a map
- Team to draw first blood
- Team to score the first quadra kill or pentakill
- Player to score the most kills
- Player-versus-player kills or assists
