Joao Cancelo backs Manchester City to defend their Champions League title

Joao Cancelo, the talented Portuguese right back currently on loan at Barcelona from Manchester City, has boldly declared the Premier League side as the favourites to triumph in the Champions League once again. In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Cancelo shared his confidence in his former team’s capabilities, attributing their favoured status to the squad’s depth, the distinctive style of play, and the leadership of their manager. “They can win two Champions League in a row, I’m sure” he stated, underlining the strength and potential of City on the European stage.

Despite his current spell with Barcelona, Cancelo’s future remains uncertain. Reflecting on his loan from Manchester City, the Portuguese expressed a desire to continue his journey with the Catalan giants. He also opened up on who his favourite player was while growing up, sharing: “I grew up with Ronaldinho as idol, I’m proud to wear Barca shirt”

As Cancelo approaches his 30th birthday in May 2024, his career trajectory has been nothing short of impressive. Having played for top clubs across Europe, including Valencia, Inter, Juventus, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and currently Barcelona, Cancelo’s experience and versatility have made him one of the most sought-after defenders in football today. Throughout the 2023/24 season the right back has recorded 31 matches in all tournaments for Barcelona with a return of 3 goals and 4 assists.
