Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund make sure Germany will have 5 representatives in the Champions League next season

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid played out an entertaining 2:2 draw in the 1st leg of their Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday and yesterday Borussia Dortmund prevailed 1:0 over PSG. It is too early to say whether the Bundesliga sides have done enough to book their tickets for the final in London, but with the draw and the win, Bayern and Borussia ensured that Germany will be represented by 5 teams in the Champions League next season.

The Italian teams were first to secure extra place in the Champions League for next season, as they managed to do so after the quarter-final round. Since last night, the Premier League sides stand no chance of eclipsing those from the Bundesliga as the 2nd most successful in European games throughout the 2023/24 season. It is curious to point out that precisely Borussia Dortmund will be the biggest winners from that outcome, as they currently occupy 5th spot in the Bundesliga standings, 12 points ahead of 6th-placed Eintracht Frankfurt and with just 3 games remaining, their place among the best in Europe for next season is secure.
