Speaking before his first match as Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim expressed self-belief reminiscent of Jose Mourinho’s famous “Special One” declaration. Ahead of his debut this weekend against Ispwich, Amorim declared himself the “Right guy” for Manchester United ahead of his managerial debut, expressing belief in his suitability for the job. Amorim said, “Call me naive, but I believe I am the right guy at the right time. I truly believe I am the right guy.” He also described himself as a dreamer who shares the club’s vision, adding, “We have the same idea and mindset.”

Jose Mourinho reportedly sent Amorim a message to encourage him before his first match with the club. Amorim confirmed the interaction, saying, “José Mourinho sent me a message. He said Man United is a big club, with lovely people. It still is.”
The Red Devils’ new boss added that his confidence extends beyond his achievements at Sporting, saying, “My idea has to go over, more than that. With that, I am confident we will achieve something.” The tactician also emphasized his authority in player recruitment, asserting his intention to shape the squad. He said, “I will have a say in recruiting new players, I’m the coach.” The Portuguese insisted the manager must have final approval, saying, “It should be together, but I think the manager should get the final say.”
