Roma targets Fabregas as Ranieri successor

Como's Spanish head coach Cesc Fabregas

    Key Takeaways:

  • Cesc Fabregas has emerged as the favourite to replace Claudio Ranieri at Roma
  • Contacts have already been made with Fabregas, but other candidates are still being considered
  • Roma are preparing for life after Ranieri, who will leave at the end of the season

Cesc Fabregas is on the shortlist of potential replacements for Claudio Ranieri at Roma. According to Sky Italia, the Como coach has been identified by the Giallorossi and is currently the favourite for the position. Roma have been working for months to find a coach for next season, knowing that Ranieri came out of retirement in November only to help save the club and will depart in the summer.

Over the past few months, many names have been mentioned as possible successors, but Sky Italia now reports that Fabregas is the latest candidate, and contacts have already been made to discuss the situation. The former Arsenal and Barcelona player helped Como secure promotion from Serie B last season, and they have already guaranteed their top-flight status.

Following his impressive work at Como, the Spaniard has attracted interest from several clubs, including Milan, Juventus and RB Leipzig, but Como insist that he will stay. However, at the moment, this seems increasingly unlikely, and a move to the Stadio Olimpico is very much on the cards.

Fabregas is highly desired by Roma, but the club are also considering other candidates for the coaching position. Among them are former Milan coach Stefano Pioli, Ajax tactician Francesco Farioli, and Patrick Vieira from Genoa.
