    Key Takeaways:

  • Enzo Fernandez, Jarell Quansah (OG) and Cole Palmer were on target for the Blues
  • Palmer scored his first goal since mid-January, converting a stoppage-time penalty

Chelsea earned their first win against Liverpool in 11 matches, triumphing 3:1 at Stamford Bridge and moving to within one point of third-placed Manchester City. Enzo Fernandez opened the scoring in the third minute, followed by an own goal from Jarell Quansah in the 56th, while Cole Palmer converted a penalty in added time. Virgil van Dijk netted a late header for the visitors.

Before the start of the game, Chelsea players formed a guard of honour for the newly crowned Premier League champions.

The match began at full speed, with Mohamed Salah testing Robert Sanchez seconds after kickoff. However, it was the hosts who struck first. In the third minute, a sharp move involving Palmer and Neto saw the ball reach Enzo Fernandez near the penalty spot. Completely unmarked, the Argentine calmly slotted the ball past Alisson.

Chelsea nearly doubled their lead shortly after, but Madueke’s shot went wide. Half an hour in, Caicedo tried to deliver a cross that deflected off the crossbar, threatening a second.

The Blues resumed the second half with intensity. A weak shot by Jackson was easily gathered by Alisson, but Chelsea’s pressure continued. In the 56th minute, a scramble in the box led to Van Dijk accidentally clearing the ball into Quansah, who redirected it into his own net for 2:0.

Liverpool clawed one back in the 85th minute when Van Dijk met Tsimikas’ corner with a strong header. However, Chelsea refused to drop deep and kept attacking. Palmer was denied by Alisson, and Neto sent an effort over the bar.

In added time, Quansah brought down Caicedo in the box. Cole Palmer stepped up and converted the penalty to seal Chelsea’s win, scoring his first goal since mid-January.
