    Key Takeaways:

  • Cristiano Ronaldo hinted at leaving Al-Nassr via a social media post
  • The Portuguese star has scored 99 goals for the Saudi club but failed to win a trophy
  • Ronaldo’s future is unclear ahead of the Club World Cup and Nations League semifinals

Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted through a social media post that he will be leaving Al-Nassr. The Portuguese forward, who scored his 99th goal for the Saudi club last night, is out of contract, and judging by his words in the post, he is not planning to renew it.

Last week, Spanish newspaper Marca reported that the Saudis were preparing to offer CR7 a new deal with an astronomical salary of around €15.2 million euro per month.

In four sentences, the 40-year-old Portuguese striker wrote: “This chapter is closed. The story? Still being written. Thank you all.”

Ronaldo scored one of the goals in Al-Nassr’s 2:3 defeat. The Portuguese star now has 800 goals at club level and a total of 936 in his career.

Despite his impressive individual achievements, Ronaldo failed to win a single trophy with Al-Nassr. Al-Ittihad (twice) and Al-Hilal denied him the title in the SPL, and this year the team was eliminated in the AFC Champions League semi-finals by Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale.

The future of the Portuguese icon remains uncertain. He is expected to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup, but it is not yet known with which team. For now, Ronaldo is joining the Portugal national team for the Nations League final four, where they will face Germany in the semi-finals.
