    Key Takeaways:

  • FIFA has launched investigation into Ancelotti’s hiring
  • Brazilian federation has allegedly used unauthorised agent
  • Contract could be voided if rule breach is confirmed

FIFA has launched an investigation into the Brazilian Football Confederation regarding the appointment of new national team head coach Carlo Ancelotti, according to local media reports.

The probe centres on former CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, who allegedly used an unlicensed intermediary during negotiations with Ancelotti. Rodrigues reportedly paid €1.2 million to Diego Fernandes, a businessman without a valid FIFA agent license. According to FIFA regulations, only individuals officially registered in its system may participate directly in negotiations between clubs or federations and players or coaches.

As a result, FIFA has requested full documentation related to the agreement in order to determine whether Fernandes was directly involved in Ancelotti’s arrival. If it is confirmed that Fernandes acted as a broker, the contract between Ancelotti and the Brazilian FA may be deemed invalid. The CBF could also face substantial fines and additional administrative sanctions.
