Juventus enter Gasperini race in late bid to hijack Roma move

Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini

    Key Takeaways:

  • Gasperini is close to leaving Atalanta but has yet to confirm his next club
  • Roma remain in talks but face competition from Juventus
  • Atalanta fans are rallying to convince him to stay in Bergamo

Gian Piero Gasperini’s future remains unclear. While it is almost certain that the coach will leave his current club Atalanta, it is still not known which team he will manage next.

As widely reported, Gasperini is in advanced talks with Roma, who are looking for a new manager following Claudio Ranieri’s retirement. However, according to Italian media, the Atalanta boss asked for a few days to make his decision during their latest meeting. His main concerns reportedly relate to Roma’s complicated financial situation, which would limit their ability to spend during the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Gasperini has emerged as Juventus’ new priority in case Igor Tudor departs. The Bianconeri had originally identified Antonio Conte as their main target, but he has decided to remain at Napoli. As a result, the Turin club have now established contact with Gasperini, and if they act fast, they may beat Roma to his signature.

On the other hand, Atalanta supporters have not given up hope of keeping their long-time coach in Bergamo. Last night they hung a banner in front of the club’s offices that read: “Gasperini and the club: continue together to make this city dream.” Fans are also planning to gather tonight in one of the city’s squares to once again call on him to stay.
