Key Takeaways:
France head coach Didier Deschamps is reportedly unhappy with Real Madrid for not releasing Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni in time. The French national team gathered in Paris on 30 May ahead of the Nations League Final Four, but the two Real players missed the first training sessions in Clairefontaine. Real Madrid decided to aloow the duo join the national squad only on 2 June, despite not being involved in any club competitions in recent days.
🗣 Deschamps on Mbappé and Tchouaméni: "Kylian and Aurelien arrive on Monday at noon. Honestly, both players were willing to come this Friday but they (Real Madrid) are sticking to the rules, and the FIFA deadline is June 2. Although Los Blancos followed FIFA’s official player release timeline, the decision sparked anger in France. Deschamps was reportedly upset, considering the reason given by Real president Florentino Perez as “childish” and baseless. Perez had claimed the club wanted to protect the players ahead of the Club World Cup, scheduled between 14 June and 13 July in the USA. However, Real Madrid are set to make their debut only on 18 June – ten days after a potential Nations League final involving France.
Deschamps already had difficulty assembling his squad, as six players participated in the Champions League final in Munich on Saturday.
“Deschamps did not hide his frustration, as the remaining time for proper preparation ahead of the semi-final against Spain on 5 June has been reduced worryingly,” wrote Sport.
“The coach decided not to call up Mbappe last November due to fitness concerns. Now that such issues no longer exist, it is Real Madrid who stepped in and chose to put their own interests first,” the outlet added.
