Simone Inzaghi’s future at Inter hangs in the balance after trophyless season and UCL humiliation

Simone Inzaghi passing by the Champions League trophy after losing in the final to PSG

    Key Takeaways:

  • Inter boss to meet club president Giuseppe Marotta on Tuesday
  • Al-Hilal waiting on final answer to mega offer
  • Cesc Fabregas and Roberto De Zerbi among potential replacements

The future of Inter manager Simone Inzaghi is more than uncertain following a disastrous season and a humiliating 5–0 defeat to PSG in the Champions League final.

Inzaghi’s current contract runs until July 1, 2026, but the lack of silverware and the record loss in the UCL final are expected to weigh heavily in Tuesday’s meeting between the 49-year-old and club president Giuseppe Marotta, Italian media report.

The Inter boss, who previously brought multiple trophies to the club, is reportedly tempted by a huge offer from Saudi side Al-Hilal. He has promised to give his final decision no later than Wednesday, with Al-Hilal pushing for a quick resolution ahead of the Club World Cup, which begins on June 14.

In the event of a parting of ways, Inter are already considering possible replacements. “Should Simone Inzaghi depart, two leading candidates have emerged: Cesc Fabregas of Como and Roberto De Zerbi of Marseille – both under contract,” the report adds. “Also in the frame are former Inter players Patrick Vieira, who had a strong season with Genoa, and Cristian Chivu, who helped Parma avoid relegation.”
