Borussia Dortmund will organise a farewell ceremony for the club’s legendary former defender Mats Hummels during their first summer pre-season friendly on 10 August, the German club announced.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will play friendly matches against their respective Juventus sides. The women’s match is scheduled for 13:00 CET, while the men’s teams will face off at 17:30 at Signal Iduna Park.

The ceremony honouring Hummels, a 2014 World Cup winner with Germany, will take place between the two matches. The defender recently ended his professional football career after finishing the season with Roma. Dortmund’s squads for the upcoming season will also be presented between the two games against Juventus.

Mats Hummels played for Borussia Dortmund from 2008 to 2016 and again from 2019 to 2024, becoming a true club legend and ranking second in all-time appearances for the team. However, he was not offered a contract extension after the 2023/24 season. Hummels made a total of 508 appearances for Dortmund and won five Bundesliga titles and three German Cups during his career with Bayern Munich and Borussia.

Next season, he will work as an analyst for the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video.
