Barcelona and Monaco fail to come to terms regarding Ansu Fati

Barcelona forward Ansu Fati

    Key Takeaways:

  • Barcelona rejected Monaco’s opening bid for Ansu Fati
  • The French club only offered a loan, refusing to cover the full salary
  • Jorge Mendes is working to find a solution as Fati seeks regular playing time

Negotiations between Barcelona and Monaco for Ansu Fati are not going smoothly, reports Marca. The French club made a quick move to secure the forward’s services before the end of the season, but talks have hit a major snag. The two clubs have serious differences over the deal, and Barcelona rejected Monaco’s first offer.

Barcelona’s original plan was to sell Fati with a buy-back clause. However, Monaco are not interested in a permanent transfer. Their offer was for a loan without covering the full salary of the player, which is now very high following his last contract extension. Barcelona are unwilling to accept this offer. The Catalans do not want to loan out players while paying a significant portion of their wages, which is the reason for their negative response.

It remains to be seen whether Monaco will make a second offer. Jorge Mendes, the agent of Ansu Fati, is trying to find a solution that suits all parties. His client is aware that he needs regular playing time after getting very few minutes last season with Hansi Flick on the bench.

Fati could have left the club in the winter transfer window, having played only in the Copa del Rey match against Barbastro in January and even being left out of the squad multiple times. That was a clear message from the club for him to leave, but Ansu chose to stay until the end of the season.
