- Bayern Munich demolished Auckland City 10–0 in their opening match of the Club World Cup
- Jamal Musiala scored a second-half hat-trick, while Coman, Olise and Muller all netted twice
- Vincent Kompany fielded a strong starting XI, including Neuer, Muller, Kane and debutant Tah
Key Takeaways:
German champions Bayern Munich recorded the most convincing victory in Club World Cup history. Yesterday, Bayern won 10:0 against Auckland City in Cincinnati in the first match of Group C at the tournament. Substitute Jamal Musiala (68′, 73′ pen, 84′) scored a hat-trick, while three other players shone with two goals each — Kingsley Coman (6′, 21′), Michael Olise (20′, 45+3′) and Thomas Muller (45′, 89′). Sacha Boey (18′) added one goal. Thus, the Bavarians started their campaign in the US in uncompromising fashion, while the New Zealand team showed why it was labelled as the complete outsider of the tournament, despite being the champion of the Oceania zone.

Despite the vast difference in class between the two squads, Vincent Kompany fielded a starting XI that made it clear there would be no underestimation of the match. Bayern’s starting lineup included veterans like captain Manuel Neuer in goal and “number ten” Muller, as well as debutant Jonathan Tah in the centre of defence. Leading the line was the team’s top scorer Harry Kane, who was supported on the wings by Olise and Coman.
Later tonight, Boca Juniors and Benfica will play the other match of the first round in this group. After that, the Portuguese side will face Auckland City on 20 June, followed by Bayern’s clash against the Argentine giants the next day.
