Porto and Palmeiras played out a goalless draw in their first match of the Club World Cup in the USA, held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The Portuguese side created the first chance less than three minutes into the match, as Joao Mario struck on the volley from a tight angle. Moments later, Palmeiras nearly capitalised on a huge error by Porto goalkeeper Claudio Ramos, who gifted the ball to the Brazilians. It ended up with Estevao, who unleashed a powerful, curling shot that missed the target.

In the 14th minute, Mora broke into the penalty area and sent a tricky low shot just wide of the Brazilian goal. Four minutes later, Porto recorded the first shot on target from a free kick. Fernandes met the ball with a header, forcing Palmeiras keeper Weverton to punch it out for a corner. Porto created another good chance in the 32nd minute when Samu won possession through a strong challenge, made a run down the flank, and sent a sharp ball across the box. Weverton reacted quickly to intercept and clear.

In the 40th minute, Estevao fired a dangerous diagonal shot that Ramos parried for a corner. In first-half stoppage time, Mauricio found space and placed a low shot toward goal, only for Ramos to intervene again with a crucial save. Two follow-up attempts ensued — first, a brave body block from Ramos, then Francisco Moura cleared off the goal line.

The second half started with both sides continuing at a high tempo. Moreno earned space and drove a low shot straight at the keeper for Palmeiras, while Vieira failed to beat Weverton for Porto. In the 53rd minute, Vieira threatened again with a strike that sailed just over the bar.

The game slowed down after that, with few chances until the final minutes, when Palmeiras nearly snatched the victory. The best opportunity came in the 84th minute when Murilo met a cross with a header near the penalty spot, but Ramos held on to preserve the 0–0 scoreline.
