    Key Takeaways:

  • PSG finished top of Group B after 2:0 win over Seattle Sounders
  • Kvaratskhelia and Hakimi scored the goals for the French side
  • All three teams in the group ended with 6 points, but Atletico Madrid were eliminated

PSG achieved a routine 2:0 victory over Seattle Sounders at the Lumen Field stadium. Luis Enrique’s team earned three points and qualification for the round of 16 at the Club World Cup thanks to goals by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (35) and Achraf Hakimi (67).

This win was enough for PSG to finish in first place in Group B. In the other match from the group, Atletico Madrid defeated Botafogo 1:0, resulting in all three teams ending with 6 points. Due to their superior goal difference, PSG won the group while Botafogo finished second. Both teams advanced to the round of 16, while Atletico Madrid were eliminated. In the next round, PSG will face Leo Messi and Inter Miami, who finished 2nd in Group A.

The Parisians controlled the match from the very start and after several good attacks managed to take the lead in the 35th minute in quite a fortunate way. After a scramble in the penalty area, the ball was cleared toward its edge, where Vitinha was lurking. The Portuguese player tried to curl the ball toward the right corner, but it was heading well wide. However, Kvaratskhelia’s body deflected the ball into the home side’s net — 1:0 for PSG.

The situation didn’t change much after the break. The French side had far more possession and constantly surrounded Seattle’s penalty area. Desiré Doué and Achraf Hakimi both missed from good positions. In the 67th minute, substitute Bradley Barcola created the second goal for his team with one of his first actions on the pitch. The winger cut in from the left and spotted Hakimi at the far post. The defender easily slotted the ball past Frei to make it 2:0.

In the 85th minute, PSG came very close to a third goal. After yet another strong run down the left flank, the ball reached Zaïre-Emery. The midfielder’s shot was on target, but the ball was cleared off the goal line.
