Danilo was the first to rattle the frame in the fourth minute, striking the post from a free kick. At the other end, Mark Delgado hit the outside of the post with a long-range effort before Giorgian de Arrascaeta did the same for Flamengo.
The Brazilians dominated most of the match, and Pedro nearly scored a controversial goal in the 30th minute, striking the crossbar while goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was on the ground injured. A goal by Marlon for the Los Angeles side before halftime was disallowed for offside.
In the second half, for the fifth time in the match, the woodwork denied a goal as De Arrascaeta hit it again. The American side managed to take the lead in the 84th minute through Denis Bouanga.
But the drama did not end with that goal, as Jorginho came off the bench and played a pass to fellow substitute Wallace Yan, who calmly finished past Hugo Lloris to make it 1–1.
Both teams already knew their fate before the match began — Flamengo had already secured a place in the knockout stage, while Los Angeles FC were eliminated and would now focus on their domestic league campaign.
