Ederson shuts down Saudi links and commits short-term future to Manchester City

    Key Takeaways:

  • Ederson confirms he will stay at Manchester City next season
  • Goalkeeper calls transfer rumours “99% fake”
  • Saudi clubs made strong attempts to sign him in summer 2024

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson Moraes will remain at the English club despite being heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League last summer.

“My future is here. Friends often send me links with news about me, but in 99% of the cases it’s total fiction. The people writing them do it just for social media likes. Most things are fake news,” said Ederson, who played only 26 Premier League matches last season.

In the summer of 2024, Saudi clubs, most notably Al-Nassr, launched a serious pursuit of Ederson. Reports suggested personal terms had been agreed and a €30 million bid was submitted, but Manchester City rejected the offer. The Brazilian later revealed he had received an “unusual proposal” but opted to stay after talks with manager Pep Guardiola.

“My place is at Manchester City and I will give everything to win the Premier League again. We want the trophy in the Champions League as well. I’m fully committed to the club,” he added.

City signed Ederson for £35 million from Benfica eight years ago. His current contract runs until next summer, and he is currently valued at around £20 million.
