With this selection, Flagg became the second youngest player ever to join the NBA at 18 years and 186 days, just behind LeBron James, who was 18 years and 178 days old when drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003.
San Antonio had the second pick and also made a predictable choice. The Spurs selected guard Dylan Harper from Rutgers University. The third pick went to the Houston Rockets, who opted for VJ Edgecombe – a freshman from Baylor University. Like Flagg and Harper, the Bahamian guard played only one season in NCAA Division I.
With the fourth pick, Duke’s Kon Knueppel was selected by the Charlotte Hornets. Fifth overall was Ace Bailey, chosen by the Utah Jazz after an excellent season at the Rutgers University.
