Marcus Rashford lands in Barcelona ahead of long awaited move

Marcus Rashford being replaced

    Key Takeaways:

  • Rashford landed in Barcelona and is expected to be officially announced tomorrow
  • Manchester United and Barça agreed on a loan with €30m buy option
  • The winger reduced his salary demands to join the Catalans

Marcus Rashford is in Barcelona since yesterday. The player is expected to be officially announced as a Barcelona signing for next season later today.

The Catalan club and Manchester United spent the entire Sunday exchanging documents after reaching an agreement on Saturday. The winger will arrive at Camp Nou on loan, with an option to buy set at around €30 million. Rashford is scheduled to undergo his official medical examination tomorrow.

The idea is for him to be available to Hansi Flick for the upcoming tour in Asia, which begins on Thursday. There should be no issues with Rashford’s participation. The first-team squad will make the trip, limited to 26 players, for the club’s first three friendlies of the summer. The coach expects the Englishman to be among them.

Barca were determined to strengthen on the wing this summer, and after Nico Williams turned down a move when it seemed everything was agreed and done, the club shifted focus to two names: Luis Diaz and Marcus Rashford. Liverpool had very high financial demands, but Manchester United instead accepted a loan with a purchase option. The English winger also significantly reduced his financial demands to wear the Blaugrana shirt, giving up part of his salary. He was earning nearly €18 million in the Premier League. The player had hinted all summer at wanting to join Barça through social media and public statements.

The winger will be the club’s third signing of the season. The Catalans already paid the release clause for Joan Garcia and also brought in promising young player Roony Bardghji. Rashford will join that short list of additions in the coming hours.
