    Key Takeaways:

  • Everton are targeting Maitland-Niles as a versatile reinforcement
  • Lyon’s financial constraints could facilitate a €12M deal
  • A Premier League return may revive his England career

Former Arsenal midfielder and current Olympique Lyon player Ainsley Maitland-Niles is being linked with a move to Everton.

According to numerous sources, the 27-year-old Englishman has caught the eye of Everton manager David Moyes, who is looking to strengthen his squad.

Maitland-Niles joined the French club on a free transfer two years ago. His ability to play both in midfield and out wide makes him an attractive target for the Toffees, especially following the departure of veteran players like Ashley Young.

Lyon’s financial restrictions could make a deal easier, with Maitland-Niles reportedly valued at around €12 million. Sources also suggest that the player is nostalgic for the Premier League, which could further increase the chances of his return to England.

Everton had previously shown interest in Maitland-Niles, but back then Arsenal rejected their loan offer with a purchase option. Now, with two years remaining on his contract at Lyon, such a deal appears far more realistic.

A potential return to the Premier League could also reignite his international career, where he has earned five caps for England. Under the leadership of new national team coach Thomas Tuchel, such a scenario is not out of the question.

Everton are also interested in another Lyon player – young talent Malick Fofana.
