Napoli suffer 2-1 defeat to Brest in third summer friendly

Napoli head coach Antonio Conte watches from the sideline as his side falls to 2-1 defeat to Brest

    Key Takeaways:

  • Napoli lost 2–1 to Brest in their third summer friendly
  • Ludovic Ajorque scored twice in quick succession for the French side
  • Lorenzo Lucca pulled one back for Napoli, but De Bruyne and Zambo-Anguissa missed late chances

Napoli recorded a second defeat in their preparations for the new season in Serie A. The Italian champions were beaten 2–1 by Brest in their third friendly of the summer. The match in Castel di Sangro was disappointing for Antonio Conte’s men, who had already lost to Arezzo. Napoli’s only win so far came against Catanzaro (2–1).

In the middle of the first half, Brest took a 2–0 lead after two quick goals from Ludovic Ajorque, who beat Vanja Milinkovic-Savic on his debut in Napoli’s goal. The Italians could have responded before the break, but De Bruyne’s backheel effort struck the post.

In the 64th minute, Lorenzo Lucca powered the ball into the net to reduce the deficit to 2–1. Frank Zambo-Anguissa and De Bruyne missed good chances to equalise late on, and the win went to the French side.

Napoli have another friendly scheduled for today, as they face Casertana.
