After missing training on Monday, the Nigerian international again declined to take part in Tuesday’s session. According to the schedule, Lookman was expected to train individually due to a calf injury. As a result, he will miss the club’s upcoming friendly match against Serie B side Monza, scheduled for Wednesday. During Atalanta’s recent trip to Germany for a friendly against RB Leipzig, Lookman reportedly visited the club’s training centre and took all his personal belongings from his locker.
The boycott by the 27-year-old, who was named Africa’s best player last year, began shortly after he published a statement on Instagram two days ago. In it, he accused the club of improper treatment and of inexplicably blocking his transfer to Inter. Subsequently, Atalanta’s CEO Luca Percassi explained that both parties had previously agreed that Lookman would not join another Italian club after his time with Atalanta.
