Gleison Bremer started and played for the first time since recovering from the knee injury he sustained in October of last year. This was only the second friendly for Juventus this summer due to the team’s participation in the Club World Cup.
The match was a testimonial for Mats Hummels, who had the chance to say farewell to the Dortmund crowd before retiring from football. The defender played until the 18th minute, when he left the pitch to loud applause from the stands.
Juventus played well and silenced the packed stands. Cambiaso opened the scoring after connecting with a cross from Kalulu. Later Kenan Yildiz and Khephren Thuram missed good chances while Borussia Dortmund lost Niklas Sule to injury. Andrea Cambiaso scored his second goal early in the second half, finishing off a fine move from the Bianconeri with an excellent strike. Igor Tudor’s side created more opportunities before the end, but in the 89th minute Max Beier scored BVB’s only goal.
