Key Takeaways:

  • Barcelona transferred Pablo Torre to Mallorca in mid-July as part of a summer squad overhaul
  • Barça sold 50% of Torre’s rights for 5 million euros, with Mallorca possessing an option to purchase the remaining 50% for 25 million
  • Torre cited the desire for consistent playing time as the main motivation for leaving Barcelona

Barcelona’s Restructuring and Torre’s Departure

This summer, Barcelona enacted several outgoing transfers as part of Hansi Flick’s efforts to address the club’s ongoing financial challenges. Among these moves, Pablo Torre’s sale to Mallorca stood out, signalling a broader strategy focused on rebalancing the squad and reducing the wage bill to facilitate new entries.

Following Torre’s departure in mid-July, Barcelona also saw Pau Víctor, Iñigo Martínez, and Oriol Romeu leave the club, which enabled Flick to finally register some of his new acquisitions for La Liga competition.

Torre’s Motivation and Contractual Details

The circumstances surrounding Torre’s exit were relatively uncomplicated. The 22-year-old midfielder, frustrated by limited opportunities during Hansi Flick’s first campaign at the helm, actively sought a transfer to secure more regular first-team football. Torre openly discussed his disappointment regarding his playing time and revealed that he had spoken directly with Flick about his lack of minutes on the pitch.

The agreement between Torre and Mallorca was reached swiftly, resulting in a four-year contract for the midfielder. According to information from Diario Sport, Barcelona sold 50% of Torre’s rights to Mallorca for 5 million euros. The deal also grants Mallorca an option to acquire the remaining 50% of the player’s rights for an additional 25 million euros.

Integration at Mallorca and Personal Reflections

Torre has adapted rapidly to his new environment at Mallorca, expressing confidence that the timing of his departure from Barcelona was appropriate for his career trajectory. He remains appreciative of his experiences at Barcelona despite the absence of regular playing time. As Torre shared with Marca:

“I wanted to play. It’s hard to leave Barça, but when time passes and you don’t get a chance, you start thinking about it. Nobody wants to leave Barça – it’s difficult. I learned a lot there, it was an incredible experience. I don’t regret being there, even if I didn’t play regularly. There were games where we were leading and the coach could have given me minutes to please everyone, but he didn’t – for some reason,” Torre told Marca.
