Key Takeaways:

  • Oviedo have parted company with head coach Veljko Paunović following a poor start to their La Liga campaign
  • The Serbian manager oversaw only 22 matches since joining the club in March
  • Under Paunović, Oviedo secured promotion to the Spanish top division after a 24-year absence

Managerial Change Amid Disappointing Start

Spanish top-flight club Oviedo has officially dismissed head coach Veljko Paunović and his entire staff, citing unsatisfactory results in their current La Liga season. After only eight matches, the team from Asturias has accumulated the most defeats among all clubs and sits a single point clear of the bottom position in the league table.

Short Tenure Ends After Notable Achievement

Paunović, who assumed managerial duties in March, guided Oviedo to a long-awaited promotion to La Liga, thus ending the club’s 24-year exile from Spain’s top division. His reign, however, lasted just 22 fixtures, as the club opted for a change owing to their challenging start in the new campaign.
