Key Takeaways:
- Alex Scott, aged 22, has not been included in the 23-man England squad to face Serbia tonight at Wembley
- Marc Guehi, Crystal Palace’s 25-year-old captain, was also excluded as he recovers from a heavy bone bruise
- Scott will look to earn his first cap in Sunday’s qualifier against Albania in Tirana
Squad Selection Decisions
Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott will not make his England debut this evening after being left out of the match day squad for the World Cup qualifier against Serbia. Thomas Tuchel, constrained by the rules to select only 23 players for the fixture at Wembley, was forced to omit two players from his current 25-man roster.
Scott, one of the newcomers in Tuchel’s squad, joins Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi among those not selected. Guehi, aged 25, was widely expected to miss out, as he continues his recovery from a substantial bone bruise suffered during club action.

Alex Scott’s Recent Rise
The decision to draft Scott into Tuchel’s latest England group had been considered a surprise. The 22-year-old has turned heads this season with his Premier League performances for Bournemouth and had previously played a key role in England’s retention of their Under-21 European Championship crown in Slovakia during the summer.
Scott, formerly of Bristol City and originally from Guernsey, shared his international ambitions earlier this week, explaining his aspirations to make the World Cup squad for the upcoming tournament in North America. He said: “Hopefully, if I impress and show what I can do, I would love to hopefully be on that plane in the summer.”
Guehi’s Fitness and Tuchel’s Comments
Tuchel confirmed Guehi’s absence from tonight’s squad is due to injury. The England manager praised the Crystal Palace skipper’s leadership and positive influence on the camp, stating: “With Marc it is very painful but there is no structural damage so it is all about the pain.
“There is the possibility that from one day to the other there is a significant improvement so we are working realistically towards the second game.
“If he is not in training on Friday and not able to train on Saturday then we will not make him travel with us and he will of course get rest and treatment.
“We want him to stay with us, want him to stay close. He is one of the leaders, he is an important member of the team.
“He is glue between many players and it is nice to see that he is trying everything to be included in the second game.
“We will assess him every day.”
England’s Outlook for Upcoming Fixtures
With his omission from the Serbia match, Scott’s prospects for a first senior cap rest on whether he will be reinstated in the squad for Sunday’s qualifier against Albania in Tirana. The England camp will also be monitoring Guehi’s progress ahead of that fixture, as they seek to secure vital points in World Cup qualification.
