Key Takeaways:

  • Nineteen out of twenty Premier League clubs have hiked ticket prices for the 2024/25 season
  • One hundred and sixteen fan organisations from various teams have called for a price freeze through a joint letter
  • The collective letter urges clubs to reveal official pricing data and hold open discussions on future ticket policies

Fans Respond to Escalating Ticket Prices

An unprecedented coalition of supporters’ groups across the Premier League have formally appealed to clubs to halt further rises in ticket prices for home fixtures over the next two seasons. According to British media reports, nineteen of the twenty top-flight clubs have decided to increase their ticketing rates for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign, with thirteen sides having already implemented rises during the ongoing season.

Coupled with high inflation and the broader rise in living costs, these moves have sparked a strong reaction from the fan community. A total of 116 different supporters’ organisations representing a variety of Premier League teams have united to sign a letter demanding that clubs maintain current ticket prices across the 2026/27 and 2027/28 seasons. Their correspondence also calls for full transparency on ticket pricing and revenue data, in addition to open discussions regarding clubs’ future ticketing strategies.

Supporters Call for Transparency and Dialogue

The letter, released by the Football Supporters Association, urges clubs to bring an end to what it terms the “arms race on prices” and draws attention to the added difficulties resulting from changes to kickoff times for television scheduling. “Matchdays have never been harder to plan for and more expensive to attend,” the letter says. It further highlights the significance of the current £30 limit on away tickets, describing it as a “significant agreement” and stating that it “proves that clubs and supporters can work together to achieve positive change”.

Outlook for Ticket Pricing

With increased scrutiny from supporters and a growing demand for accountability, Premier League clubs are facing mounting pressure to reconsider their approach to ticket pricing. The unified call for a freeze and for transparency could mark a new chapter in the relationship between clubs and their fanbase regarding affordability and access to live football.
