Key Takeaways:

  • Mike Maignan is expected to sign a contract extension with Milan by Saturday, January 31, securing his future beyond June 2026
  • Milan have reportedly reached an agreement with Crystal Palace for Jean-Philippe Mateta
  • Roma have asked about the availability of Christopher Nkunku

Maignan Poised to Commit Long-Term to Milan

French goalkeeper Mike Maignan is on the verge of formalising a new deal with Milan, with the signing anticipated either today or by Saturday, January 31, according to Sky Sport Italia. After weeks of negotiations, both parties are set on an extension that will see the 30-year-old remain at the San Siro beyond the original June 2026 expiry.

The proposed deal will reportedly keep Maignan with the Rossoneri until either 2030 or 2031, including an option for an additional season.

Late January Deals and Transfer Activity

As the January transfer window draws to a close, Milan are actively working on further squad adjustments. Reports from both Sky and Gazzetta indicate that an agreement has been reached with Crystal Palace for the services of Jean-Philippe Mateta. This move comes amid recent arrivals at San Siro, including Niclas Fullkrug earlier in the month.

With squad limits in mind, Milan would need to make space, necessitating the potential departure of Christopher Nkunku. According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the former Chelsea forward has attracted attention from Roma and other clubs, with formal enquiries made regarding his availability.
