Key Takeaways:
- Joan Laporta has indicated Barcelona are unlikely to pursue major transfer activity this summer
- The club are prioritising internal promotion, especially from La Masia, for Hansi Flick’s squad
- Signings will only occur if specifically requested by the management to strengthen key areas
Laporta Signals Limited Transfer Movement
As Barcelona approach a pivotal summer transfer window ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, club president-elect Joan Laporta has outlined a measured strategy regarding squad reinforcement. While positions such as centre-back and striker are earmarked for potential recruitment, and the club could seek a new left winger if Marcus Rashford does not join permanently, Laporta has made it clear that sweeping changes are not expected.
🚨 Joan Laporta: "Bernal, Lamine Yamal and Cubarsí were the backbone of their team in La Masia. Xavi Espart also comes from that batch as well."
"And then before them we have Gavi, Fermín, Balde, Eric García…"

In an interview with Món Esport, Laporta stated: “We don’t need to go to the market for the sake of going and we must continue to look at what we have at home to, if necessary, improve the squad. I understand that we will improve in all aspects, but I must say that what I think should be done after getting such a competitive team is to maintain it and consolidate it.”
Emphasis on Promoting La Masia Talent
Rather than focusing on external acquisitions, Laporta has underlined his commitment to the club’s tradition of developing homegrown talent. He believes several La Masia prospects are ready to make an impact under new manager Hansi Flick.
Laporta commented: “I believe in La Masia. I already focused on it during my first term. In this, I am not doubtful. I have always had in mind that the best Barça teams – even better, the best Barça team in history – has been when we have had a core of players from home with others of great quality who have come from abroad.
“We will only sign if the management team asks us for a player or two who can reinforce this great team we have.”
Summer Window Outlook
With the transfer period approaching, it remains uncertain how active Barcelona will be in the market. While utilising La Masia talent aligns with club philosophy and could strengthen the squad’s foundation, bolstering with experienced additions may still be required to achieve the aim of being Europe’s top side.
