Márquez is currently part of Javier Aguirre’s coaching team, serving as assistant manager. He will assume the top managerial role after the completion of this summer’s tournament finals, officially becoming El Tri’s new leader heading toward the next World Cup.
Davino told Fox, “His contract is signed, his coaching staff is more or less 80 percent finalized,” also hinting at Andrés Guardado being a potential addition: “Andrés is an option. I’d prefer not to be the one to say it, for him to say it himself, but Andrés is a very good option. As a coach, he’s just like he was as a player.”
Qualifying Process and World Cup Hosts
As hosts, Mexico did not go through the qualification stages for this summer’s World Cup. Looking ahead, however, Mexico must earn their place at the 2030 finals via the CONCACAF qualifying process. The forthcoming tournament will be staged across Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
2026 World Cup Group and Fixtures
In the 2026 World Cup, Mexico are drawn into Group A, where they will face South Africa, South Korea, and Czechia. Their campaign kicks off with the tournament’s curtain-raiser versus South Africa, taking place on 11 June at Estadio Banorte.
Confident Outlook for El Tri
Davino also underlined his optimism for Mexico’s prospects at the upcoming World Cup. “We’re going to compete. I have no doubts about that,” he stated. With the managerial transition secured and Group A fixtures confirmed, preparations for both the 2026 finals and the road to 2030 are now under way for El Tri.
