Maresca Appointed as Guardiola’s Successor

Enzo Maresca, aged 46, is set to take over managerial duties at Manchester City following Pep Guardiola’s departure. According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Maresca has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until 2029. He is also expected to be actively involved in City’s recruitment strategy as part of his new role.

Managerial Journey: From Chelsea to Manchester

Almost six months after his dismissal by Chelsea, Maresca now takes on the challenge of leading Manchester City. His exit from Chelsea reportedly followed tensions with the club’s board amidst a challenging run of form. Speculation had circulated at the time that Maresca could be in line for the Manchester City job, which has now materialised.

Before his stint at Chelsea, Maresca had already worked alongside Guardiola at Manchester City for a year, following which he managed Leicester City. He subsequently took the reins at Chelsea ahead of the 2024-25 season, where he oversaw 92 matches, achieving 55 wins, 16 draws, and 21 defeats.

Guardiola Leaves a Lasting Legacy

Succeeding Pep Guardiola represents a formidable task for Maresca. During his tenure at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola led Manchester City to six Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, three FA Cups, and five League Cups.

At his farewell party on Monday, Guardiola stated: “Everything will be fine. Everything. I’m pretty sure, knowing the people here.

“They are stubborn and know exactly what they are going to do.

“All the managers here have been lucky with Txiki and now Hugo Viana. With Ferran and especially Khaldoon Al Mubarak.

“They know perfectly that the opponents are so tough here and in Europe.

“When the club tells me who it is going to be, I will call him.

“But the club will support him unconditionally, which is the biggest compliment.”

Maresca and Guardiola: Shared History at City

Guardiola and Maresca previously worked together at Manchester City, a partnership that now comes full circle as Maresca steps into the managerial hot seat at the Etihad.
