Tottenham Closing In on Defensive Reinforcement
Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of finalising a deal to acquire Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi on a free transfer. While personal terms remain under negotiation, the transfer of the 29-year-old Argentina international is progressing rapidly. This move complements Spurs’ concurrent pursuit of Scotland full-back Andy Robertson, who is out of contract after his exit from Liverpool.

Senesi’s Bournemouth Journey and Departure
Bournemouth formally ended their attempts to retain Senesi following his decision to reject a third contract renewal in December. This rejection led to the centre-back entering discussions with prominent overseas clubs. Despite this, Senesi now appears poised to extend his Premier League career, unless unforeseen last-minute developments occur.
Throughout the recently concluded season, Senesi featured in all but one of Bournemouth’s league fixtures, amassing a total of five assists. His consistency helped the Cherries secure a sixth-place finish, earning European football for the first time in club history. Over his four-year stint on the south coast since joining from Feyenoord in 2022, he accumulated 128 appearances for Bournemouth.
Spurs Seek Stability After Challenging Campaign
Meanwhile, Tottenham concluded their Premier League campaign in 17th position. The club displayed notable improvement following Roberto de Zerbi’s appointment as head coach in March, ultimately managing to avoid relegation to the Championship.
Addressing BBC Sport, Tottenham chief executive Vinai Venkatesham commented: “The squad needs work and the squad hasn’t got the right balance.
“We need experience and leadership and also that kind of physical robustness to play in the most demanding league that exists.
“We need to strengthen the club over multiple transfer windows but this transfer window, in particular, is going to be critical.”
