Dubravka Arrives at Spurs as De Zerbi’s Fourth Acquisition

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, who will join the club on a free transfer once his contract with Burnley expires on 1 July. The 37-year-old Slovakian international, who has earned 60 caps for his country, featured 35 times in the Premier League for Burnley during the previous campaign.

This move becomes the fourth addition of the summer under head coach Roberto de Zerbi. Arrival of defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, both on free transfers, was followed by the acquisition of Netherlands centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton for £52m.

Background and Recent Transfer Activity

In addition to reinforcing their goalkeeping department, Spurs recently had a bid rejected by Newcastle United for midfielder Sandro Tonali, with their £80m offer turned down.

Speculation also surrounds the future of current Italy international Guglielmo Vicario, after he attracted interest from Serie A sides, leading to uncertainty about his place at the club.

Dubravka’s Premier League Experience

Dubravka brings notable top-flight experience, having made 197 Premier League appearances and accumulated 51 clean sheets. His career includes spells with Newcastle United and Manchester United before his stint at Burnley.

Sharing his thoughts on joining Spurs, Dubravka said, “It’s an exciting time for me, a new journey and new experience for me and my family. I’m looking forward to it.”

He added, “Everything moved pretty quickly and I’m really happy to be here. I’ve loved watching Roberto’s teams over the years and know all about his style, vision and the fantastic fans here.”

Current Goalkeeping Situation at Tottenham

Last season saw both Guglielmo Vicario and Antonin Kinsky entrusted as Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper at various stages. Kinsky, aged 23, concluded the campaign as number one and made a crucial save in the fixture against Leeds United, which proved instrumental in helping Spurs avoid relegation.

Kinsky’s form recovered after he was substituted in the 17th minute during the Champions League last-16 tie at Atletico Madrid in March, following the concession of three goals.

Manager’s Perspective on the Signing

Roberto de Zerbi expressed his satisfaction with the club’s latest addition: “I am very happy because Martin is a goalkeeper with big experience and a strong mentality,” De Zerbi said.

He continued, “He has very important qualities for me and will bring balance, leadership and competitiveness to our dressing room.”
