Newcastle Eye Frattesi While Weighing Belghali or Benfica’s Dedic

  • Rafik Belghali and Amar Dedic are both on Newcastle’s right-back shortlist ahead of the 2026/27 campaign

Newcastle Turn Attention to Frattesi After Stanković Approach Is Rejected

Newcastle United have widened their transfer search in Italy, with Davide Frattesi now emerging as a midfield target. According to Tuttomercatoweb, relaying Corriere dello Sport, the Magpies have joined Lazio in monitoring the Inter midfielder, whose departure is now regarded as increasingly likely after several transfer windows of speculation.

Newcastle are looking for midfield reinforcement following the exit of Bruno Guimarães. Their initial enquiry was for Aleksandar Stanković, but Inter made clear that the youngster is not available. The Serie A club instead pointed Newcastle towards Frattesi, who is valued at around €25m.

For Inter, a Frattesi sale would carry strategic importance. The funds would support their long-standing interest in Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, a player wanted by Cristian Chivu. However, Inter first need to create space in the squad before pursuing that move.

Lazio Interest Remains, But Newcastle Hold the Stronger Position

Lazio are also interested in Frattesi, although their financial position appears less favourable. The Biancocelesti could realistically only pursue a loan agreement, potentially with a conditional obligation to buy and a significant sell-on percentage included. That type of structure leaves them behind any club capable of offering Inter a permanent transfer.

Frattesi is understood to be open to experiencing the Premier League for the first time, which strengthens Newcastle’s position as they assess whether to move ahead with a formal bid.

Stanković, meanwhile, is expected to remain at San Siro. Inter brought him back from Club Brugge through a buy-back clause, and despite interest from several clubs, they are determined to keep him. The player also wants to stay and compete for a place at the club.

Inter’s wider squad planning also includes attempts to find an exit for Kristjan Asllani before the transfer window closes, while Yanis Massolin is being lined up for a loan.

Belghali Added to Right-Back Shortlist After Trippier Departure

Newcastle are also active in the right-back market after Kieran Trippier’s departure. According to Tuttomercatoweb, Hellas Verona defender Rafik Belghali is among the players under consideration as the club seeks competition for Valentino Livramento ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Belghali impressed in Italy last season, scoring two goals and creating two big chances in 26 appearances, while also helping his side keep six clean sheets. The 24-year-old Belgium-born Algerian international has attracted interest from major Serie A clubs, but Newcastle could now step into the race.

He is not the only right-back on the Tyneside club’s radar. Newcastle are also pursuing Amar Dedic, the Bosnian full-back who enjoyed a productive debut campaign in the Portuguese top-flight last season. His performances have attracted attention from more than one English club.
