Gomez Signs New Five-Year Brighton Deal
Brighton have tied down Paraguay international Diego Gomez to a new five-year deal, securing the midfielder’s future after an impressive start to life in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old arrived from MLS side Inter Miami in January 2025 and has since contributed 11 goals in 56 appearances for the club.
Gomez also featured for Paraguay at the World Cup in North America, where the national team reached the last 16. He started their 1-0 defeat to France, a result that ended Paraguay’s run in the tournament.
“Diego has been an important player for us since his arrival and we’re pleased to have secured his long-term future,” said Brighton sporting director Mike Cave earlier today.
“He has adapted to Premier League football seamlessly and embedded himself as a key player in the squad.
“We believe Diego will continue to develop this season and be an important player for us in achieving our goals this season and beyond.”

Ferguson Linked With Serie A Return
While Gomez has strengthened his long-term position at Brighton, Evan Ferguson could be heading away from the club, with Serie A side Genoa reportedly considering a loan move for the striker.
Ferguson, now 21, was once viewed as Brighton’s next £100 million player after breaking through during the 2022-23 season, when he scored ten goals in 25 games.
However, a series of injury problems have disrupted his progress. Those setbacks included an ACL tear in 2024 and ankle issues during his loan spell at Roma last season.
Ferguson scored just five goals in 22 games for Roma and did not convince Gian Piero Gasperini, who never appeared to be fully won over by the forward.
Another move to Italy could be possible, with Genoa keen to sign Ferguson on loan for the coming season. It is understood the Italian club have made initial contact with Brighton, while manager Fabian Hurzeler now considers the striker surplus to requirements.
