Embolo Set for MLS Switch to Atlanta United
Stade Rennais forward Breel Embolo (29) is reportedly close to a move to Atlanta United, according to information from Ouest-France. The Switzerland international, who has 92 caps and 26 goals for his country, had a fixed release clause available this summer and is expected to sign for the Major League Soccer franchise.
The proposed transfer fee is said to be just over €17m, with an agreement between Embolo and Atlanta United reportedly already in place.
If completed, the move would make Embolo the second most expensive signing in Atlanta United’s history. In the winter of 2025, the club spent around €21m to sign Emmanuel Latte Lath (27) from Middlesbrough.
Impressive Rennes Campaign and World Cup Output
Embolo joined Rennes last summer after spending three seasons with AS Monaco. During the 2025-26 season, the centre-forward made 34 appearances across all competitions and was directly involved in 13 decisive actions, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists.
He was also part of Switzerland’s squad at the World Cup, where he played six matches, scored two goals and supplied two assists.

Wolverhampton Move for Jordan James
Wolverhampton have also been linked with Rennes, as the English side have set their sights on Jordan James (22). After being relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2025-26 season, Wolves are said to have offered Rennes a deal worth just over €10m for the midfielder.
James would prefer to experience the Premier League, but a move to the Championship has not been ruled out. Other possibilities also remain open, with his future still undecided.
James’ Leicester Loan and Rennes Background
James spent last season on loan at Leicester, where he delivered a productive Championship campaign. He scored 11 goals and registered four assists in 34 Championship matches, starting 27 of those games.
The Welshman came through the ranks at Birmingham City FC before joining Rennes in the summer of 2024 for a fee of €5m. He made 25 appearances in his first season with the club, but did not establish himself as a key player in the squad.
