Suzuki Set for Aston Villa After PSG Deal Falls Through
Zion Suzuki’s expected transfer to Paris Saint-Germain has broken down, with the 23-year-old goalkeeper now set to join Aston Villa from Parma ahead of the new season.
The Japanese international stopper had come close to agreeing a switch to the Parc des Princes, where he would have joined the Ligue 1 champions. However, Aston Villa entered the race at the last hour, and their intervention changed the direction of the deal.
Suzuki’s representatives have indicated that the chance to play in the English first division, together with a guarantee of being first choice, was a decisive factor for the American-born goalkeeper.

Chevalier’s PSG Future Could Be Affected
PSG’s advanced negotiations for the Parma goalkeeper had raised questions over the future of Lucas Chevalier. The 25-year-old French international was second choice behind Safonov last season, and the arrival of another goalkeeper would likely have pushed him towards an exit. With Villa now positioned to sign Suzuki instead, Chevalier may remain at PSG.
Barcola and Mbaye Missing as Liverpool Interest Continues
PSG forwards Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye were both absent from the squad to face Lens in the Trophée des Champions. The pair are attracting interest from Liverpool, who are looking to strengthen their attacking options before the summer transfer window closes.
The Merseyside club have been in active discussions with the Ligue 1 champions over both Barcola and Mbaye. As of yet, Liverpool have not reached an agreement with the French capital club for either forward.
PSG are demanding fees in the region of €200m for the duo to leave the Parc des Princes this summer. Their absence from Luis Enrique’s squad, as PSG pursue their second trophy of the campaign, could be a sign that movement is possible.
New Arrivals Add to PSG’s Attacking Depth
Over the weekend, PSG confirmed the signings of two attacking players. Mika Godts, 21, arrived from Ajax, while World Cup winner Ferran Torres, 26, joined from Barcelona.
With PSG actively recruiting in forward areas, Liverpool could be placed to benefit if the Ligue 1 champions decide they need to sell.
